Sheet die repair process: (we provide photos, videos via email)

We burn off all existing plastic off of your sheet die & prepare it for opening and disassembly. You can save downtime and money by sending a plastic free die that is already cleaned.

Disassembled using overhead crane, not to ding any of the parts.

Complete cleaning of your entire die, all ports, inlets, surfaces that plastic comes into contact with are cleaned using high speed non-abrasive pads.

Stripping all the plated material off of your existing parts. This can take 1 to 4 days and there is no way to speed this process up. We need to wait for the acid to completely dissolve the plating off of all the surfaces. We can electronically strip the chrome off in a tank with current called “reversal process” but this will etch the die and it will require more polishing and sanding.

Vapor blast and chemical dip to clean all parts. Dye penetrate is used to locate any pits, chips, cracks, dings. If any are found, they are repaired with welding and blended in using high speed hand tools. All work is double checked, the smallest pinhole can lead to sheet die repair failure.

The most important part of sheet die repair process. Polishing. We apply a 5RMS mirror finish to all surfaces that come into contact with plastic. Any imperfections or pits will be welded and blended in perfectly, polished to perfection.

Inspection of all polished surfaces, dye penetrant checked cleaning and prep for chrome plating. The surface has to be absolutely perfect, blemish or scratch free.

Chrome plating sheet die. While other companies sand blast their surfaces to prep before plating, we dip in acid solution to maintain the polish finish. We apply .012 to .015 of industrial hard chrome. When you chrome plate (or nickel plate) a sandblasted surface, the parts come out "frosted" and require additional sanding and polishing which will remove a majority (about half) of the plating from your extrusion sheet die surfaces. An acid dip will clean the die better than sandblasting. This is done to Military Spec QQC-320B

A: If you prefer, we can apply an electroless nickel plating to all surfaces. No sandblasting is needed, acid dip to prep for plating. Electroless nickel done properly can be more durable and last longer than chrome plating. Please note that electroless nickel costs more than chrome but will last longer. All nickel plating is done to Military Spec Mil-C-26074B Class A Grade 1

B: For the 24 month warranty option, for harsh environments, we recommend CEB coating (Chrome, Electroless nickel, Bake at 475 for 3 to 5 hours done to strict Military Spec QQC-320B, Mil Spec Mil-C-26074B Class A Grade 1). This is the most durable plating available. We’ll give a 24 month warranty against chips, pits, pitting, peeling, etc. Regardless of the process you’re running.

Immediately after plating, all parts are put into a heat treating oven at 475F for 3 to 5 hours. This strengthens the plating bond to the base material and provides a more durable surface (actually hardens hard chrome and electroless nickel). Parts are allowed to cool overnight. Mil Spec QQC-320B Class 2A & Mil Spec Mil-C-26074B Class A Grade 1

*Contact any chrome or nickel plater that specializes in aerospace parts, ask for information about baking after plating, or CEB coating, it's a Military Spec required on most parts for FAA and Military parts.*

Inspection of all plated surfaces. Checking for chips, pits, etc. All areas and surfaces of your sheet die are blemish free & perfect before final polishing. Checking all ports, inlets, orifices, etc. for proper even thickness. Any imperfections, the part is stripped, polished and re-plated. Part must be blemish free and perfect.

Buffing and polishing all plated surfaces, inlets, all parts that come into contact with plastic. A 3RMS mirror finish is applied by hand and thoroughly cleaned and prepped for final inspection.

Open or close the die gap to your exact dimensions, +/- 0.0003 on all sheet die gap settings. You must provide sizes, we do not estimate sizes.

Final inspection of all plated and polished surfaces. Your sheet repair will not only look as good as new but most importantly will perform like new, guaranteed for 18 to 24 months. All plated and polished surfaces will be inspected for any blemishes, dots, zits, pin holes, etc. If found, we will do those parts over.

Assembly and professional crate made with metal banding, foam liner and fully insured ready to ship. Please note we will not tighten bolts or install heating bands.
