We do all work in house so we can get your electric motor repaired faster than any of our competitors with a better warranty. We can perform simple maintenance to full rewinding and insulating.
Does your electric motor just need bearings or does it need complete rewinding with VPI or dip & bake? While other companies sub out rewinding, insulating or chrome plating and grinding, Mitchell Precision does it all under one roof and that is how we keep downtime & cost to an absolute minimum.
How long will it take for my electric motor repair? Size, HP, RMP, amount of damage can all contribute to downtime. Maybe you need the shaft precision ground and chrome plated with new bearings and seals. Maybe you need a complete rebuild. Call us with the info off the name plate and we'll get you a delivery date and price. Need it in a hurry? Let your tech know you need "Red Ticket Expedite Service", we can work 3 shifts, 7 days a week including holidays to get your electric motor repair back into production ASAP.
Why would my electric motor need rewinding? The coils got shorted, damaged or grounded. Electric motor repair and rewinding is needed when the insulation fails or the coils are grounded and shorted. All electric motor shops are not the same, few companies can offer VPI insulation and nobody comes close to our warranty times.
We service all of North & South America with large electric motor repair. We are the #1 source for rewinding, insulating, testing to get the best motor repair possible.
Insulation failure is the main culprit, and if your electric motor repair and rewind is done properly it will last for years. Turn on turn, phase to phase, coil to coil, grounding at the edge are usually caused by contamination, voltage, abrasives, surges, vibration or just plain old age.
Deterioration of thermal barrier is another common cause of electric motor failure. The insulation got overheated because of bad connections or bad connections in the motor terminal. High load demands exceeding the motors rating can all contribute to electric motor failures that require complete rewinding and repair.
How do you rewind an electric motor for repair?
First you need to strip the windings/coils. Second you need to fully and properly rewind the coils, and third fully insulate the windings properly and we exceed OEM specs/tolerances. Rewinding is not as easy as it sounds, it's a very technically advanced procedure that needs to be properly done.
Our electric motor rewind specialists will obtain the proper winding information from our extensive log of prints we've obtained over 40 years in the business. Different motors may have the same HP but the rewind technique is totally different and if not done properly, your motor will need to be repaired again very quickly. Beware of cheap prices with 30 day warranties. Mitchell Precision gives a 12 to 18 month warranty on all electric motor repair that covers all parts, labor, bearings, seals, insulation, winding etc. Your electric motor repair will perform like new, guaranteed.
How do you manufacture coils for electric motor rewind repair? Proper layering is key along with exact wire tensioning and counting the number of turns on the entire coil. It's a complicated process that cannot be rushed.
Do you test the coil windings before final assembly? Yes, we do multiple tests for 24 to 36 hours to insure that your electric motor rewind repair is done properly. We follow IEEE and EASA to the strictest guidelines all while making sure we surpass OEM guidelines. Once the rewind process is tested and completed the insulation or varnishing can begin.
Proper insulation on your freshly rewound electric motor repair is very important. It keeps the coils from moving, keeps the coils together, provides electrical insulation while keeping your windings free from contamination.
How do you insulate the electric motor rewind repair? One of two ways, varnish dipping and baking which is dipping the windings in an epoxy based varnish and then immediately transferred to an oven. The second way is vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI). Precision vacuum cycles to fully coat and penetrate the windings of your electric motor repair and rewind with epoxy resin. There are many advantages to VPI over traditional dip & bake. It provides greater performance for all environments and gives you greater penetration for greater heat transfer and its harder to contaminate. This is our preferred method, it costs more but provides longer life, with VPI you'll get an 18 month warranty vs. the 12 month warranty offered with dip & bake insulation.
